Metal power inductors set new benchmark in Isat and RDC

The metal power inductors for high-temperature applications can be used in DC/DC converters and power management circuitry for automotive applications. They are supplied in 1210 inch size (3.2 x 2.5mm) metal cores.

The wide inductance range makes them suitable for in-vehicle applications beyond infotainment systems to the powertrain and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), says the company. The inductors deliver a DC superimposed current rating (Isat) of 8.7A, claimed to be a world best in a 1210 inch size product, with an inductance of 0.47μH.

Included in the series is the DFE32CAHR47MR0L, which has a 0.47µH inductance value, an RDC of 14mΩ (max) and an Isat of 8.7A (max).

Another model is the DFE32CAHR68MR0L, with inductance of 0.68µH, 17mΩ (max) for RDC and 7.0A (max) for Isat.

The 1.0µH-rated DFE32CAH1R0MR0L and 1.5µH-rated DFE32CAH1R5MR0L have respective RDC values of 22mΩ and 30mΩ, with Isat figures of 5.9A and 4.8A.

The DFE32CAH-2R2MROL, DFE32CAH-3R3MROL and DFE32CAH4R7MR0L inductors have 2.2, 3.3 and 4.7µH inductance respectively, with RDC figures 43, 67 and 101mΩ respectively and Isat values of 4.0, 3.3 and 2.8A.

The inductors support large currents by optimising the internal coil structure design and using original metal materials, explains Tomohiro Yao, general manager of Marketing and Promotion for the EMI division at Murata. The result is a series of small metal power inductors that have a reliable design for a diverse range of automotive applications, including the powertrain and ADAS, that require support for temperatures up to 150°C and demand large current flows, he adds.
