Miniature TVS diodes protect data centres, telecomms and power supplies
To protect against lightning strikes, inductive kick, and other transient surges, for data centre, telecomms and power supplies, the SMTOAK2 TVS diode series requires less PCB space. Many high power, high surge rating TVS diodes are only available in axial leaded packages but the 2kA (8/20μs) rated TVS diode is a surface mount diode offering robust transient voltage, over-voltage protection and lightning protection system.

The TVS diode series cab be used for high power density applications in ICT, medical and industrial DC power supplies. They have a high power DC bus protection and suit DC power supplies used in exposed and harsh environments. The low clamping voltage and high surge rating protects high cost, high current, high speed MOSFET/IGBT circuits against inductive kicks.

"Global trends and regulatory requirements for higher efficiency power supplies, high current and high-speed MOSFET/IGBT designs are increasingly in demand," says Ben Huang, senior product marketing manager, at Littelfuse.

The modified, compact SMTO-263 surface mount package is 50% smaller than SMTO-218 surface-mounted devices, says Littelfuse. The diodes are compatible  with automated PCB assembly processes reducing costs while saving time.

The TVS diode series is available in tape and reel format through authorised Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
