High current inductors are commercial and automotive-grade

The Vishay Dale IHLE series of low profile, high current inductors with integrated E-field shields to reduce EMI are available as commercial and automotive-grade devices in the 5.0 x 5.0 x 3.4mm 2020 case size. The company claims they are the smallest such devices on the market and deliver lower costs and save board space by eliminating the need for separate board-level Faraday shielding.

The inductors contain the electric and B field associated with EMI in a tin-plated copper integrated shield, providing up to -20dB of electric field reduction at 10mm (above the centre of the inductor) when the integrated shield is connected to ground. Temperature operation ranges from 155°C and co-planarity of the four terminals is within ≤100µm. The devices are optimized for energy storage in DC/DC converters up to 3MHz and provide noise attenuation in high current filtering applications up to the SRF of the inductor.

Applications for the IHLE-2020CD-51 include servers and desktop PCs, notebooks, high current point of load (PoL) converters, low profile, high current power supplies, FPGAs and battery-powered devices.

The AEC-Q200 qualified IHLE-2020CD-5A is suitable for use in automotive engine and transmission control units; entertainment / navigation systems, LED drivers, instrumentation panels, ADAS devices / sensors and noise suppression for pulse width modulated (PWM) -controlled motors.

Both devices are packaged in a 100% lead (Pb)-free shielded, composite construction that reduces buzz noise. They also offer high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, and mechanical shock and handle high transient current spikes without saturation.

The IHLE-2020CD-51 and IHLE-2020CD-5A are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.

Samples and production quantities of the new IHLE devices are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks.
