Rohm offers 11 automotive-grade Hall-effect ICs for magnetic detection

Rohm has released two series, the BD5310xG-CZ and BD5410xG-CZ Hall-effect ICs for automotive applications requiring magnetic detection.

They are used to detect position and motor rotation in electronic control units (ECUs) and sensors in a non-contact manner that reduces the wear-and-tear experienced by mechanical switches. They are also compact and can be equipped with protection circuits, notes Rohm.

The BD5310xG-CZ / BD5410xG-CZ series feature what is claimed to be an industry-leading 42V withstand voltage that enables direct connection to a primary (12V battery) power supply. This improves reliability under battery power, which can fluctuate rapidly depending on the operating conditions. Other features are a wide operating supply voltage range of 2.7V to 38V and an internal topology which reduces power consumption by approximately 20 per cent over general products, resulting in a current consumption of 1.9mA, which is also described as industry leading. Both BD5310xG-CZ / BD5410xG-CZ series comply with the AEC-Q100 (Grade 1) automotive reliability standard and incorporate multiple protection circuits required for vehicle systems.

The BD5310xG-CZ series is a unipolar detection type and the BD5410xG-CZ series provides latch-type detection. There are 11 models in total, offered in detection magnetic flux densities ranging from 2.0mT to 28.0mT. Unipolar detection can be used for detecting position in applications such as door open/close and door locks; latch detection is suitable for rotation detection in windows or door motors.

The Hall-effect ICs are available via distributors Digikey, Farnell and Mouser and is scheduled for future release at other online distributors.
