The two new diodes have current ratings of 2,830 and 3,090A and are available in industry standard 26 and 35mm thick packages. The 26mm parts have an average current rating of 3,090A and the 35mm parts an average current rating of 2,830A at a heat sink temperature of 55°C. Both parts offer a surge current rating of 36kA.
The fully hermetic package has a 66mm electrode contact diameter with an industry standard overall diameter of 100mm. The construction uses an improved process compared to the company’s earlier high current rectifier diode designs. It has a silicon die directly bonded to a metallic disc. This improved structure offers both better transient thermal conditions and overall greater robustness, when compared to designs with free floating silicon, says the company. The devices offer the possibility for reducing series parallel combinations in very high MW rectifier applications, reducing component count and simplifying the mechanical construction.
The W3090HA520 (Vrrm 5200V), W3090HA560 (Vrrm 5600V) and W3090HA600 (Vrrm 6000V) are available in the 26mm package and the W2830HE520 (Vrrm 5200V), W2830HE560 (Vrrm 5600V) and W2830HE6000 (Vrrm 6000V) are 35mm packages.
The 6kV voltage rating is suitable where 3kV DC output is required. Typical applications include traction rectifiers and substations, front end rectification for medium voltage drives and all rectifier applications requiring devices in this power rating.
