Compact power supplies are certified for BF patient protection applications
The 250/450W high efficiency power supplies are versatile, and can be used in industrial, IT and healthcare applications.

They are available in open frame or a range of enclosed formats and deliver 250W (convection cooled) and 450W (force cooled or when using the enclosed versions with an integral fan).

Medical approvals to IEC60601-1 provide two means of patient protection (2 x MOPP) input to output isolation. The supplies also have basic isolation from output to ground and low levels of leakage current, to ensure that the power supplies are suitable for body floating (BF) applications.

The convection cooled ratings make these power supplies suitable for medical device applications, where audible noise is undesirable, and industrial or IT equipment where fanless operation increases reliability and minimises dust ingress.

Efficiency levels are up to 94%. The ECH450 power supplies also minimise waste heat, reduce operational costs and save space, says the company. They operate at full rated power at ambient temperatures up to 50ºC without derating and at half power at 70ºC ambient. Peak load applications are supported up to 450W with convection cooling with average power up to 250W.

ECH450 units range in size from 127 x 76mm (5.0 x 3.0 inch) footprint with a low 35.5mm (1.4 inch) profile. A universal input range is for worldwide use. Single output voltages available are 12, 15, 19, 24, 36, 48 and 54V.

There are a number of mechanical configurations, including fanless units that are open frame or fitted with an optional vented cover (-C). Units with an integral fan have the option of either an end fan (-EF) or a top fan (-TF) to suit the airflow requirements of the end equipment. The open frame and vented cover (-C) units include a 12V, 600mA fan supply to power a remotely located cooling fan and all versions come with a 5V/1A standby supply.

Other medical approvals are IEC, UL and EN60601-1 and for industrial and IT equipment, the supplies are approved to IEC, UL and EN62368-1. They comply with Class C input current harmonics for lighting and display applications.

The power supplies also meet EN55011/32 Level B conducted and radiated emissions with a significant margin, says the company, allowing designers to integrate them with minimal risk to system level EMC approval.

The ECH450 series is available from Digi-Key, Farnell, Mouser, RS Components, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and offer three-year warranty.
