PCIM Europe 2018 highlights EVs, infrastructure and e-mobility

This year’s PCIM conference (5 to 7 June) in Nuremberg Messe, will provide a platform for 450 exhibitors at the exhibition and over 300 presentations in the accompanying seminar programme.

The PCIM Europe Conference addresses topics in power electronics, including recent developments in power semiconductors, passive components, thermal management products, energy storage, sensors and new materials.

EV technologies and their impact on the electrical infrastructure will be covered with a keynote speech, ‘Electric Vehicles Charging – An Ultrafast Overview’, by Drazen Dujic, Power Electronics Laboratory, EPFL, Switzerland, and a session on ‘Advanced Solutions for Charging Electric Vehicles’, with lectures from representatives from Toshiba, Japan and the Fraunhofer Institute IISB, Germany.

Covering other themes, Petar J. Grbovic, Huawei Technologies, Germany, will deliver a keynote speech ‘New Passive Devices in Power Conversion - Nice to Have or a Must?’ and Markus Billmann, of the Fraunhofer Institute IISB, Germany, will analyse ‘Modular Multilevel Submodules for Converters, from the State of the Art to Future Trends’.

Six seminars and nine tutorials will also present opportunities to exchange knowledge. Topics to be covered include ‘Advanced System Design with Ultra-Fast Si/SiC/GaN Power Semiconductor Devices’, ‘Modern Magnetic Technologies for High Efficiency and High Power Density’ and ‘Reliability of Si and SiC Power Devices and Packages’. A one-day tutorial by Ionel Dan Jitaru, Rompower, USA, will focus on ‘Modern Soft Switching Technologies’, while small group seminars will be opportunities for learning and asking experts questions.

The international exhibition has increased its e-mobility special exhibition area, where visitors can see power electronics products and components specifically designed for automotive applications.
