Thin Film Resistors Deliver Stable Precision

Stackpole Electronics says its RNAN series combines thin film precision with the heat-spreading capability of an aluminium nitride (AlN) substrate for industrial electronics that operate at high power or under sustained load. The construction helps limit localised heating that can affect resistance stability and component life.
The company says AlN is widely used in power modules and other high-density electronics because it combines high thermal conductivity with electrical insulation and a coefficient of thermal expansion close to silicon. These properties make the material useful in equipment exposed to repeated thermal cycling, including industrial power conversion, robotics, renewable-energy systems, rail electronics, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Available in 0603, 0805, 1206, and 2512 sizes, the RNAN provides power ratings from 0.5 W to 6 W at 70°C. The series supports tolerances to 0.1%, TCR as low as 25 ppm/°C, a 50 ohm to 30.1 kilohm resistance range, and operation from -55°C to 155°C.
Performance testing reinforces its suitability for long service life: resistance shift is specified at ±1% after 1000 hours of endurance, ±0.4% after 1000 hours of damp heat with load, and ±0.2% after 100 thermal-shock cycles from -55°C to 150°C.
The RNAN is said to be well suited for:
- Precision industrial power supplies, converters, and control systems
- Motor drives, robotics, and factory automation operating under continuous load
- Renewable-energy controls and other compact power-electronic assemblies
- Test, measurement, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment requiring stable feedback or voltage division
Actual power handling depends on the user’s mounting and thermal design.
