The design challenge when selecting Schottky barrier diodes is to balance both VF and IR; if VF is lowered to improve efficiency IR becomes higher which increases the risk of thermal runaway, explains the company.
The chip performance of both series is improved by 25 per cent compared with Rohm’s conventional products, says the company. The RBR series’ low VF characteristics improve efficiency and reduce loss. They are therefore suitable for automotive applications but also consumer electronics such as laptops where high efficiency is required. The 12 new diodes are available in the compact PMDE package (2.5 x 1.3mm) which reduces mounting area by 42% compared to existing products in PMDU packages / SOD-123 packages, says Rohm.
The RBQ series is characterised by low IR which enables stable operation in high temperature environments. This reduces the risk of thermal runaway which is particularly useful in high temperature environments, for example automotive powertrain applications as well as power supplies for industrial equipment. Both diodes series are qualified to AEC-Q101.
