The MLCCs are designed for power electronics applications and are claimed to offer customers high capacitance stability over temperature and voltage, and lower parasitic losses under common operating conditions.
They are suitable for use in demanding environments, such as EVs (electric vehicles), industrial applications or DC bus smoothing and the non-piezo construction makes them suitable for snubber capacitors.
With lower self-heating properties and low loss operation, they can handle higher ripple currents than conventional ceramic capacitors, claims the company.
They can be used in high-temperature environments, where cooling systems add weight and bulk. The MLCCs are designed to operate reliably and efficiently in a wide range of operating conditions and demanding applications, explains Steve Hopwood, senior applications engineer, Knowles Precision Devices, for low loss, while offering high, stable capacitance up to maximum voltage and temperature.
Capacitance ranges from 100pF to 680nF and voltage ratings are up to 2kV with zero capacitance ageing. The company’s patented dielectric system enables capacitors to achieve typical capacitance reduction of less than 45% at full rated voltage.
