Two shielded Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Chip-LAN transformer, the Model SM453230-121N7YP and Model SM453230-231N7YP are small, low profile discrete devices which give designers additional board layout flexibility compared to traditional Chip-LAN modules, says Bourns. They support high network speeds up to 10Gbit/s and are capable of 700mA for PoE .

They operate across the -40 to 85°C temperature range. The transformers are capable of 1500V AC/60s hi-pot isolation and can withstand pulse voltages of up to 2400V, 1.2/50μs, making them suitable for use in high-speed telecommunications and networking devices.

The Model SM453230-231N7YP supports 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0GbE and the Model SM453230-121N7YP is 10GbE-capable. The former can be paired with the company’s Model SRF2012-900YA common mode chip inductor, while the latter is suitable for pairing with its Model SRF2012A-801Y.
 

These small, centre-tapped transformers are wound on a drum core and capped with a ferrite plate to emulate the close magnetic path of a toroid core. A centre tap allows for common mode suppression even without an extra common mode filter, advises the company, adding that the transformers help reduce EMI troubleshooting efforts.

Both are produced with a fully automated production process, to enhance component uniformity, quality and reliability, says the company. It also means that high volume production can be accommodated with shorter production lead times and reduced cost with this process.

The two GbE Chip-LAN transformers are available now and are RoHS-compliant and halogen free.
