Wet tantalum capacitors meet military H-level shock and vibration

The range of tantalum-cased wet tantalum capacitors have hermetic glass-to-metal seals. They are claimed to provide all the advantages of Vishay's SuperTan extended series devices with a higher reliability design for improved military H-level shock (500 g) and vibration (sine: 80g; random: 54 g) capabilities. They also offer increased thermal shock up to 300 cycles.

They offer a lower cost alternative to high-rel wet tantalum capacitors, says Vishay, by providing military H-level performance in a SuperTan series, while ensuring the high reliability required by more aggressive mission profiles.

Capacitances range from 470 to 1500µF in the D case code with capacitance tolerances of ± 20% standard at 120Hz and 25°C, with tolerances of ± 10% available. The STH series operates over a temperature range of -55 to 85°C, to 125°C with voltage derating. ESR is as low as 0.50Ω at 120Hz and 25°C. The capacitors are designed with standard tin / lead (Pb) terminations although RoHS-compliant 100% tin terminations are also available.

The STH series is optimised for energy storage in power supplies, actuators, transponders, and radio, radar, and missile systems, in addition to oil drilling and underwater equipment.

Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of 16 to 20 weeks for larger orders.
