A stable and reliable connection is the basis for trouble-free performance and protection against electrical damage. Molex offers an extensive range of Type-C I/O connectors, whose housing material is made of high-temperature plastic and which rely on a 3-stage insert molding process. This it claims ensures a high degree of pluggability. The special design of the plug-in tongue reportedly protects against damage caused by improper use, transportation or assembly processes. The extended family of compact USB Type-C connectors supports fast charging with voltages of up to 48 V / 5.0 A, a data throughput of 10 Gbit / s, and offers waterproof, robust, and reliable connectivity for consumer, industrial, and IoT devices as well as a variety of other high-speed I/O applications. The connectors are available with 16 or 24 pins. They are suitable for voltages of 48 V and currents of 3.0 / 5.0 / 6.0 A, are TID-certified, and suitable for use at an operating temperature of -30 °C or -40 °C to 85 °C. The family of robust and electrically reliable USB Type-C connectors includes the following options:
The waterproof connector sockets have an IP classification of X5, X7 or X8, depending on the model. They have a seal ring made of liquid silicone rubber, which enables easy installation of the connector, offers excellent temperature and weather resistance and is firmly attached to the connector.
The USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C connectors offer a particularly wide range of mounting options: whether a flat profile, upright slim fit or high center height, they enable high flexibility even in applications with limited space. If the PCB has different thicknesses, Molex supplies sockets with longer lead (217175 series) to ensure a stable connection to the PCB.
For the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C models, plugs and sockets are available with both short and long housings. They reportedly enables a particularly stable and robust connection both to the PCB and between the plug and socket. Flat profiles and special stand-off designs provide additional mounting flexibility.
