High-efficiency quasi-resonant switching power supply controller
Nisshinbo Micro Devices has announced the launch of the NJW4790A, a next-generation switching power supply control IC designed for quasi-resonant fly-back AC/DC converters.

The company says engineered for superior efficiency and low electromagnetic interference (EMI), it delivers cutting-edge performance across a wide range of power supply applications.

The NJW4790A adopts the Ringing Choke Converter (RCC) method with self-excited oscillation, ensuring high efficiency while reducing emissions. By incorporating a quasi-resonant switching mechanism, the IC achieves optimal energy performance from light to medium loads, said to make it an ideal choice for applications requiring compliance with global energy-saving standards, including CoC Ver5, DoE 20943, GB Level VI, and ITU-T L.1001.

Designed to enhance stability and EMI control, the NJW4790A features an integrated AC voltage detection function that suppresses frequency fluctuations due to input variations. This advancement simplifies EMI countermeasures and improves design compatibility for various power supply architectures.

In addition to its efficiency benefits, the NJW4790A boasts a robust protection suite, including overcurrent protection, output overvoltage detection, and thermal shutdown. The device also offers selectable overcurrent protection modes, such as constant-current voltage droop and fold-back droop, allowing engineers to tailor designs to specific requirements.

The NJW4790A operates within a voltage range of 7.2 V to 35 V and supports an extended temperature range from -40 °C to 125 °C, making it a highly versatile solution for industrial and consumer electronics applications. Its compact MSOP10 (VSP10) package further enhances its suitability for space-constrained designs, such as AC adapters, smart meters, and industrial power supplies.

The company says with an industry-leading standby power consumption of less than 75 mW, the NJW4790A is positioned as an essential component for next-generation power management systems. It delivers the efficiency, reliability, and flexibility needed to meet the growing demands of high-performance power conversion applications.

For rapid prototyping and development, evaluation boards featuring the device are available, ensuring seamless integration into your projects. A comprehensive circuit diagram and additional information simplify the design process, enabling faster time-to-market.
