Gate drive optocouplers protect fast switching semiconductors
Two high speed gate drive optocoupler device families, the ACPL-P/W347 and ACPL-P/W349, protect and drive fast switching power semiconductors like SiC (Silicon Carbide) and GaN (Gallium Nitride) MOSFETs and IGBTs, says Avago.
The 1A and 2.5A optocouplers support a wide gate operating voltage (up to 30V), enabling higher voltage drive for high power applications, such as in power inverters, motor drives, and switching power supplies.
Both have a propagation delay of 110ns (maximum) and a wide operating VCC range of 15 to 30V. The ACPL-P349 and ACPL-W349 models have a maximum peak output of 2.5A and the ACPL-P347 and ACPL-W347 have a maximum peak output of 1A.
A common protection feature across all devices is under-voltage lock-out with hysteresis and 50kV/μs minimum high common mode rejection. The optocouplers are available in a small, stretched SO6 package and carry CSA, UL and IEC safety approvals.
Samples and an evaluation board are available now.
