According to the company, the level of reliability helps system designers increase power density and reduce cost, resulting in energy savings for the end user. For example, in hard switching applications such as AC/DC converters it cuts energy losses by 50 %, allowing for higher switching frequencies and reduced passive component and solution size. It can also provide voltage spike headroom for better reliability, safety and ease of design in a 60V telecomms rectifier. The number of stages required in cascaded high voltage switch mode power supplies can also be reduced. Additionally, 110V AC UPS can now be realised using the MOSFET.
The use of fast diode technology offers 70% lower reverse recovery charge Q rr compared to the next best alternative device, says the company. This characteristic leads to smooth body diode behaviour and minimises voltage over-shoot.
The MOSFET is supplied in a TO-220 package, which the company claims provides the industry’s best R DS(on) of 41mΩ - more than 58% lower Figure of Merit (FOM: R DS(on) x Q g) when compared to other available products. This translates into lower conduction losses and improved overall efficiency in high current applications such as motor control.
It is also offered in a D2PAK with R DS(on) of 40.7mΩ.
