It houses a switching regulator controller, power switches, inductor and other supporting components in a 6.25 x 9.0 x 3.32mm BGA package. Together with two capacitors and two resistors, it occupies approximately 150mm², saving space compared with competing devices, which require up to 250mm² and twice as many components, claims the company.
The regulator delivers 3.5A of continuous (6A peak) output current, and its ‘share’ pin enables current sharing, for it to operate in parallel to deliver more current. The output voltage is adjustable with one resistor from 0.97 to 15V. This output range means that one device generates common system bus voltages of 3.3, 5.0, 12 and 15V. The efficiency at 12VIN to 5VOUT is 90%. Output current of 3.5A is delivered at up to 85℃ ambient without a heatsink or airflow (12VIN to 5VOUT). Operating range is -40 to 125 degree C.
