The configurable, integrated multi-channel SPOC devices will reduce hardware variants and module size, claims the company, to lower costs and allow for smaller packaging.
While previous generations of SPI controllers were equipped with two pre-defined modes for either bulb or LED loads, this series introduces device parameters including slew rate, load current sense ratio (K ILIS) and overload detection current which can be configured individually for each of a maximum of six channels. There are no negative effects on the on-state resistance R ds(on), adds the company. The design allows two channels to drive one load in parallel. Consequently, the range of supported currents is now twice as wide, namely 1.5 to 14A.
Customers can switch between all products of the family if required, to meet late changes from an OEM. They share a common pinout, common software concept and the same package.
The package is reduced by over 50% compared with the previous generation, for a body size of 52mm². According to the company, the controllers need half the footprint area compared to alternative devices on the market with the ability to switch up to 241W.
Another feature is an integrated ground diode. No additional external ground diode is required, thus the ground circuit only requires a small low power resistor (47Ω instead of 100Ω).
In addition to short circuit and overload protection, there is a configurable over-load-detection current. The protection can either be configured with limited restart or immediate latch off.
A common diagnosis concept via SPI includes enhanced diagnosis functions such as open load in the off-state and short circuit to battery.
