Miniature PoL switching regulators replace linear regulators

They are specifically designed to replace linear regulators such as the LM78xx type.

There is no need for a heatsink and are small in size. Four standard models operate from inputs that range from 4.75 to 36V DC,  providing tightly regulated outputs of 3.3, 5.0, -5.0, 12, -12, 15, or -15V DC. Standard features include efficiency as high as 95%, very low noise operation and tight line/load regulation.

All models are approved to EN 60950 and have continuous short circuit protection. The 5.0, 12V and 15V models can be configured to produce a negative output. The MTBF (per MIL HDBK 217F) of the MSR7805WUP series is greater than 2Mhours.

Regulators are fabricated as a miniature, unpotted (open board) unit that is only 10 x 7.2 x 11mm. The pin-out is compatible with LM78xx linear regulators. Each model is specified for operation over the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85°C, with no derating or heat sinking required. Cooling is by free-air convection.

They are a replacement for inefficient linear regulators that often require a heatsink to operate reliably. Applications would include a wide variety of board level systems where PoL regulation is required.
