The distributor offers the Recom R-78S boost switching regulators to enable designers to power devices such as microcontrollers, radio modules, or energy-conscious internet of things (IoT) systems at up to 100mA for long periods from a single 1.5V cell.
The 0.33W regulators ensure longer lifetime by maintaining a stable 3.3V output as the battery discharges as low as 0.65V. The wide input-voltage range enhances flexibility to use alkaline, NiCd, NiMH, zinc-carbon or lithium cells. The converters are also extremely energy efficient, says Dengrove, operating at up to 93% efficiency at full load and over 80% at lighter loads. No-load current consumption is 160μA, and can be reduced to 7μA by using the control pin.
The boost converters deliver the same plug-and-play convenience of the buck series, and integrate continuous short-circuit protection with auto-recovery, over-temperature protection, and under-voltage lockout to prevent deep discharge of rechargeable cells. They are specified for operation in ambient temperature range from -40 to 100°C and certified to the new EN62368-1 standard. The regulators are housed in a UL94V-0 plastic SIP4 package that measure just 11.6 x 8.5 x 10.4mm. All devices are covered by the manufacturer's three-year warranty.
